Inspired by the great Impressionists, James spent his early years as a full-time artist following in their footsteps through the South of France. Travelling allowed him to develop the plein air style of painting he is known for. James paints in oils, often in short bursts that allow him to retain a loose, expressive quality to his compositions - capturing fleeting moments that render the ordinary extraordinary.
