Julie has been an artist for thirty years. She began as an in house artist for a mail order company in South Lanarkshire where she hand painted on collectable thimbles and trinkets and then onto illustration work for thimbles and labels for whisky and wine.
Since its closure, Julie has chosen to paint mainly in watercolours for various art galleries in Scotland including charity events and submissions for exhibits in the Royal Scottish Academy.
“I
mostly prefer to paint landscapes and old buildings etc. using my own photos
and sketches. Occasionally adding bits of old road maps and gold leaf on
handmade watercolour paper. I also love to use paints that contain natural
stone pigments in them such as tigers eye and amethyst. These gives the
paintings interesting pigmentation, texture and colour”.
