About John Bartholomew

The Bartholomews were a famous Edinburgh-based family of map engravers and cartographers whose work helped shape modern British and global cartography from the early 19th century into the late 20th century. Their name became synonymous with high-quality maps and atlases published from the Edinburgh Geographical Institute. This particular map of the Pentland Hills was engraved in 1885 by John Bartholomew junior (1831–1893).
