Colinton Arts Newsletter – April 2022
Spring is in the air at last, and while we may get the odd cold gust, the buds are on the trees and cherry trees are beginning to blossom.
If you’re looking for something new, if you want to feel renewed and refreshed, then our Spring Exhibition might be just the tonic for you. It opens on Friday 22nd April with the Private View on the night before. If you’d like to join us for the Private View from 6pm to 9pm on Thursday 21st April, please email us.
This exhibition features 14 exceptional artists with close ties to Scotland. From Leon Anderson’s quirky portraits to Lindsay Dudley’s frenetic cresting waves, there’s something here for everyone. We’re also proud to be showcasing seven new pieces from up and coming Edinburgh artist Wendy Davidson. Wendy’s three paintings in our Winter Exhibition were all snapped up quickly, so come and see them while you can.
Another piece we think will go quickly is ‘Hamish the Highland Coo‘ by Tess Dunlop. There’s just something soothing about this magnificent beast set among the purple heather. Of course you may be more interested in landscapes or the semi-abstract, in which case the beautiful ‘Summer Thermals‘ by Madeleine Gardiner will light up any room.
There’s far more to see than we can fit in this short newsletter, so all we can encourage you to do is to take a look at our artists online, come to the Private View (remember to let us know) or pop into the gallery anytime from Friday 22nd April. We’d love to see you again and thank you for all your support.
Enhancing Your Art
A good frame will enhance the presentation of your art; an excellent frame becomes part of the art experience. That’s what we aim to do. As framing experts for over 20 years, we take great pride not just in framing and mounting your art, but enhancing it. Take a look at the image below:
This first frame has its merits – the yellow mount reflects the beach theme and the wooden frame echoes the tree stump in the piece. However, the need for reframing is clear with a little mould appearing. Take a look now at how we’ve taken this lovely sea view and enhanced it:
Instead of reflecting the beach and the stump, our master framers have taken their visual cues from the parasol protecting the man on the beach. As the approach is more modern and more subtle at the same time, it allows the contents of the image to stand out, rather than blend in, with the frame.
We hope you’ll agree and, if you ever need framing services, we can help you enhance your art. Colinton Arts are long established and trusted framers for Edinburgh and surrounding areas – you name it, we frame it!
